· The vertical axis wind turbine of the savonius design we have developed has got many advantages over the horizontal axis counterpart.

· They are much easier and cheaper to build.

· A greater  number of materials can be used for its construction. Eg  sheet metal, plywood coated with resin, cane + plastic sheets etc.

· It can take the wind from any direction.

· No tower is required so it can be anchored to the ground.

· The high solidity aspect  means no over speed control is required.
